Saturday USA/LIMA  Arrival in Lima

Reception and transfer to the hotel.

Sunday   LIMA/AREQUIPA  Buffet or American breakfast.

Transfer to the airport.  Departure by Lan 105 (10:40/12:05) flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to hotel. 

In the afternoon, tour of the "White City", including the Plaza de Armas (main square), the Cathedral, La Compaņia Church, and the famous Santa Catalina Monastery.  Then, visit the city's  picturesque  surroundings.

Monday            AREQUIPA/JULIACA/PUNO Buffet breakfast.

                                    Early morning, transfer to the airport. Departure by Lan 115 (06:25/07:10) flight to Juliaca. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to hotel.

                                     Rest of the day at leisure.

Tuesday             PUNO/UROS/TAQUILE/PUNO  Buffet breakfast.

Full-day boat excursion to Taquile, an island located 38 Kms. (24 miles) from Puno. On the way, visit    the floating “totora” islands of the Uro Indians, ancient inhabitants of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. The Taquile Island, inhabited by 2,000 Quechua-speaking Indians, is considered a paradise.  World famous hand weavings and an ancient communal way of life will be admired.  Lunch included. 

Wednesday                PUNO/CUZCO    Buffet breakfast.

Transfer to the station. The Andean Explorer’s glass-walled vantage car provides on this full day journey to Puno spectacular views of the Andes cutting crisp blue skies, altiplano colorful people, small villages on the meandering Huatanay, and vicuņa and alpaca foraging on this beautiful patched-work.  Lunch included.  Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel.

Thursday           CUZCO   Buffet or Continental breakfast.

In the morning, city tour including: the Plaza de Armas (main square), the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Church (Koricancha), and the surrounding ruins of Puka Pukara, Kenko, Tampu Machay, and the renowned fortress and religious site of Sacsayhuaman famous for its cosmic energy.            


Friday                     CUZCO/MACHU PICCHU  Buffet or Continental breakfast.

Transfer   to   Poroy  station.   A scenic 3 hour train trip through the Urubamba Valley, followed by a 30-minute bus ride up to the breathtaking Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.  Guided tour through the ruins.  After a buffet lunch at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, free afternoon exploring the ruins. Dinner and overnight at Inkaterra Machu Picchu in Aguas Calientes (at the base of the mountain).

Saturday            MACHU PICCHU/OLLANTAYTAMBO   Buffet breakfast.

A full morning to visit and enjoy  the ancient citadel.  In the afternoon, departure by train to Ollantaytambo. Walk to the hotel. Accommodation at Pakaritampu Hotel.

Sunday          OLLANTAYTAMBO/PISAC/CUZCO  Buffet breakfast.

In the morning, tour of the town and fortress of Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Afterwards, drive up and hike to the splendid Inca ruins of Pisac, a large complex of religious temples, housing areas, agricultural terraces, cliff-hanging paths and astronomic observatories. Lunch, followed by a visit to the village of Pisac and shopping at the colorful Sunday Indian market. Return to Cuzco.

Monday                 CUZCO/LIMA   Buffet or Continental breakfast.

                                    Transfer to the airport. Departure with Lan 030 (10:25/11:50) flight to Lima. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel.

In the afternoon, Visit  to Miguel Mujica Gallo's private museum which includes a splendid display of gold objects and ornaments which illustrate the craftsmanship  of the ancient Peruvian cultures of Chavin, Paracas, Nazca, Lambayeque, Mochica, and Chimu.    This museum also houses an eclectic arms  collection  which  include: old Peruvian weapons and ancient, bizarre firearms.

Tuesday            LIMA/USA   Buffet or American breakfast

In the morning, tour some of Lima's main colonial sites:  The Cathedral, Plaza Mayor (main square), Government, and Archbishop Palaces. Afterwards, drive through Lima's modern residential areas: San Isidro with its olive grove, golf course, and “Huaca Huallamarca”; and Miraflores with its central park, “Parque del Amor”, and ocean views. Then to visit the private Larco Museum which contains a  fascinating collection of beautifully modeled pottery vessels, unique gold and silver work, mummies and erotic ceramics from pre-Inca civilizations. An impressive display of thousands of ceramic pieces from the Moche culture brings animals, plants, and anthropomorphic deities to life. At the appropriate time, transfer to the airport. Departure to USA.

Thursday  Arrive Lima. Overnight.

Friday. Flight to Puerto Maldonado.  Cruise by riverboat down the great Madre de Dios River into the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Overnight Heath River Wildlife Center.

Saturday Early morning visit to one of the most remarkable macaw-parrot salt licks in the Amazon.  Time to photograph and enjoy the birds, then return to lodge for lunch and rest.  Late afternoon hike rainforest trails in search of wildlife and rare birds. (This is the site where two years ago we saw a jaguar and a harpy eagle!)

Sunday. Morning boat ride up the river to Puerto Maldonado. Flight to Cuzco.
